Brand: HP Compaq (Notebook)
Back

Release: Julia
Status: Works fine with some minor problems

Owner:

What works:

Live DVD boots in normal mode, memtest86+, installation, wireless networking, Suspend power function. I did not try hibernation on this particular machine.

What doesn't work:

Live DVD's "compatibility mode" only boots to CLI.
startx reports an error along the lines of
(EE) VESA: kernel modesetting driver in use, refusing to load
(EE) No devices detected
Fatal server error: no screens found
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error

gdm command also gives an error:
(gdm-binary:2347): WARNING **: Failed to acquire org.gnome.DisplayManager: Connection ":1.24" is not allowed to own the service "org.gnome.DisplayManager" due to security policies in the configuration file
Could not acquire name; bailing out

Lid switch is ignored. It remains on no matter what is selected in Power Preferences (works with winXP).

"USB disk creator" program did not successfully work with any ISO that I've tried, including Mint 10.

What was done to make it work:

As a precaution I opened "users and groups" control panel and enabled everything for the user.

For ISO-to-USB disk imaging I use Unetbootin 4.9.4 on Windows.

Additional notes:

Intel 915gm chipset with integrated graphics, mechanical lid switch.
