 Gnome/File Manager: Creating folders

Idea:

When creating a folder starting with a dot (in my case ".thunderbird" since I'm trying to import my configuration) the file manager shows an empty folder instead of the newly created folder. When pressing F5 the bogus folder disappears but the new folder isn't visible.

Suggestion for improvement: When creating a folder starting with a dot it should be visible for the current session of that file manager, possibly with a warning that it's a hidden folder.

Whilst what you say is absolutely correct, this is the default behaviour for Nautilus, a program which is not controlled in the least by Linux Mint. The other flaw I see in your request is that you say you are attempting to 'import' your dot.thunderbird folder. To me this implies that you already know the folder is hidden and therefore should not be surprised when the new one you create is hidden also (unless you press Ctl/h first). So sorry, but this idea is going to be marked as rejected.

I can perfectly understand where @remoulder is coming from. These issues may be completely out of reach of the Mint developers because they exist in other packages such as GNOME.

However if no-one does anything to resolve the issue we're not going to get anywhere. I think it's best that the solution is solved in Linux Mint even if it means having to fork a Mint-specific branch of GNOME rather than let these things go on.

What use is open source if you're just going to end up having to do all sorts of hacks just to get stuff to work properly?

I may be posting too many ideas, but it's better that I voice them rather than keep quiet about it.

When I was writing comments, you have already posted your comments which is similar to mine.

@jboer:

It would be better that when you would like to create hidden folder(s) or file(s), you press 'Ctrl + H' first (this will show you hidden folders and files), then create hidden folder(s) or hidden file(s), and then press 'Ctrl + H' again, hidden folders and files will be hidden from your eyes.

Mint do not write nautilus so pointless posting this here. As a workaround don't press F5 or give the new folder a name.
