Idea:

What is a Spin? It's an alternate version of a Linux distribution, tailored for various types of users via hand-picked application sets and other customizations.

See the Fedora Project Spins for some examples: http://spins.fedoraproject.org/

There are also some projects using a web-based software to generate a customized ISO with the selected software, like Custom NimbleX Live CD generator - http://custom.nimblex.net/ or Build Slax - http://www.slax.org/build.php

I know that a remaster tool can be used instead, but you still need to know what packages and customizations are the best ones to select to create a customized ISO for a specific purpose.

I think the Mint Team have quite enough on their hands at the moment without taking up time launching variations on a theme...
Sorry.

IMO the learning curve here for a new user is pretty intent.
A person would really need detailed instructions and because the newer releases are rolling out every six months now. Who knows what's stable?

I think that a part of the linux mint website where users can post there re-spun versions of linux mint would be a great idea.

What about a knowledge base that would provide us with step-by-step instructions for building a custom Linux system, similar to www.linuxfromscratch.org ?

nice but not REALLY needed, I think. In the other hand, I would probably use it, specially if I could save some settings between releases.
