Idea:

I have very good expiriences with static Software like Blender or Skype, that means that the Software has all it uses and needs in itself and can be run out of the BOX, what it makes it extrem stable because you can mess up most parts of your System and nothing expect these static Softwares work anymore because they depend on allmost nothing and on the other Hand, since you don't need to install anything, you dont mess up your System, what again makes the System more stable and this Idea therefore priceless!
(I one Day had to do some updates on Python and other Languages and Libs, etc. to compile something, afterwards the Mint Update and other things didn't work anymore(yes even in the Ubuntu based one), what maybe could be stopped when we build Things up this way. Yes i know we link Things to save Data size, but hey, this way i never made it to have over 30-50 Softwares installed on Linux without destroying it so, that i had to reinstall and even if you manage to install a 100 static build Softwares which has ~10mb more Data each, that GB more Data is a minimal Price today on such large HDDs to achieve such a gigantic Stability!)

I believe i had, but maybe i have forgoten the BUG here that when you press Edit the Text that was allready there gets deleted around " " Signs as far i have studied...
Ahm yeah, sorry in my mind i was back to the Problem that the System breaks, what generally is my biggest Problem, my static Blender and Skype etc. never makes Problems and if it does, i know what to do to easily replace it with just one Click on the Desktop, what is another Advance of Static Software, no Programs to know, no PWD, no "Unknown install Path" no nothing except pure functionality:)
Of course that would be to immense, it was then just a Question because there seemed to be no Sense for my original Idea!
Mhh nice, never heard before of them, so my statically Idea maybe could be a good one for Mints Future oneday(I'm just ahead of Mints Time :D).

On a other ones Idea i found that Comment from you vincentv:
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Can you perhaps rephrase this into an idea? I see the link goes to LMDE. Broken packages are perhaps more common there as the rolling release may update libraries and such so that applications you installed may lose their dependencies (hence broken packages) after an update pack gets installed.
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

For me that sounds pretty much as my Idea about Mint Core Components for LMDE as static Builds would be a very great Idea!;)

""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
I'm not sure what you did to bork your system, but I'm happily installing various versions of Python without breaking anything. Use your package manager to avoid breaking things.
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Never forget the pain in the ass, ahm i mean LMDE, things are different there, very very different and the most for the bad! :D

I don't know anymore for sure what it exactly was, and i was migrating from buyed Novell Suse to Ubuntu Derivates especially because Synaptic is way better to dont kill the OS, but i can tell you that i have managed it often in my early Linux explorer Days to install that much Stuff with Synaptic, that even the best Systems(Mint9/10/11) breaks apart:(.
If you don't believe that's possible i send you my Girlfriend, she is still a Specialist in destroying Linux without even installing much and she can even demonstrate you how a Linux can freeze that much that not even REISUB reacts anymore ;D (I was also a non believer, but she really can, trust me)

Back to the point, maybe it was not a good Idea to say Mints Core Components, but i somehow feel that static Builds are the more stable Future of Linux because things always change so fast and depend to each other and break each other etc., so where do you see application for it? I bet when i say add a static Build Repository and compile all the Stuff for it again, someone kills me right? :D
