Hi Boo,

It's a manual fix. You probably don't want to add it now, as you're already gone through the public RC.

Is the kernel speed up (200 line fix or newer one) in the mint repos? or is it a manual fix?

Ok, here we go. Three changes if possible:

  • Swap Lancelot for Kickoff
  • Update mintupload to 3.8.4 (it fixes the logo in systray and the drag and drop problem in KDE)
  • Either deactivate the mouse wheel shortcut that changes virtual desktops (or activities or whatever they're called :)), or lower the number of virtual desktops to 1.

Ok swap back to kickoff it is.

Ok, this is going to be unpopular. Nonetheless, we can't provide a menu that doesn't update itself.

Tests:

  • Add the default KDE menu to the panel.
  • Install chromium-browser.
  • Lancelot doesn't show it in the Internet category.
  • The KDE menu does.

Same thing happens when removing applications. It's not a bug in KDE 4.6 or the packaging of Chromium, it's to do with Lancelot itself.

Here are the possible resolutions:

  • Require a fix upstream from the Lancelot dev. team.
  • Identify the bug in the Lancelot source code and fix it (I tried that, without success).
  • Replace Lancelot with the previously used KDE menu.

There's another issue with mintupload (the drag and drop doesn't seem to work in desktops other than Gnome) which I'm trying to fix at the moment.

this could also be a KDE 4.5 to 4.6 issue.

I think it is in the packaging of the apps. I noticed when insaling a few IDEs, eclipse did not get added but kdevelop did and it caused eclipse to be added. I guess there is a triger that the apps can call to update lancelot. So i an guessing that KDE apps installed update lancelot and non-KDE ones dont, until next login.

Clem, I saw that in the RC as well but most apps seem to show in the menu after logging back on or restarting the system.

There's a deal braker we need to fix:

  • Newly installed apps don't appear in the Lancelot menu. If you search for them in Lancelot, they're there... if you browse the categories, they're not there. For instance, if you install chromium-browser, it doesn't appear in Internet.

I've no idea why this is, and if it's an upstream bug in Lancelot or something specific to this edition. Either way, we need to fix it.

No local repo for mint KDE, most of the local repo packages are added (unless they broke stuff).

I could not find mint-local-repository-x64.....

Passing Intel chipset because it passed before and there is no reason why it wouldn't this time around ;)

I'll have a hand at testing this later.  There's some bugs that have been filed on Launchpad regarding the RC (not this specific one).  Will report back in ~12 hours.
