Hi Merlwiz, really bad timing but excellent feedback nonetheless. I posted comments on the forums and joined the discussion there. We'll upgrade this edition post-Mint 11 again with a new set of LMDE ISO images for Gnome and Xfce and we'll then incorporate most of these changes.

  • Menu isn't working correctly.(Fixed xfce-applications.menu)
  • Volume Buttons don't work: apt install xfce4-volumed
  • Default apps aren't set. Needs default.list in /usr/share/applications (already updated for Debian Xfce)
  • mintConfig needs updated and installed
  • If ~/.config is deleted all the settings get removed and not replaced.
  • Applications missing text for buttons and dialog windows missing icons on buttons.(fixed config setting)
  • Thunar right click search not working.(catfish needs to be installed.)

Changes:

  • Remve gnome-terminal gedit gnome-system-monitor gnome-search-tool gnome-dictionary
  • replace with xfce4-terminal mousepad xfce4-taskmanager catfish xfce4-dict
  • Installed xfce4-clipman
  • Updated mintdesktop-xfce
  • Change notifications theme to slider it looks better.(Root Terminal: gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults --type string --set /apps/notification-daemon/theme slider )

Thanks Clem! I did not see the usb-creator as a problem right now anyway :) I had to edit fstab, for some reason or another my 2 GB swap partion was not active. The swap and sound issues I fixed seemed to be specific to this machines hardware.

Debain just doesn't like this Foxconn main board.... It's all good now and running very well.

I passed the system tools test. No real need for startupmanager and I did not even find the usb-creator utility in the repos.

  • LibreOffice replaces OpenOffice.org
  • Default session uses startxfce4 (fixes battery, screensaver and a lot of things which weren't running automatically before)
  • mintMenu support for Xfce
  • Removed gnome applets which didn't work
  • new mintUpdate
  • Window borders
  • Backdrops location
  • Popup menu bug
  • XNest (Login in a new window)
  • Cleaned fstab
