I to was caught by how fast this tested out. I have family visiting, so I was a bit busy. I did however get a chance to boot the liveCd last night. All I can say is woot! This has a wow factor that will be noticed and appreciated by the many that aren't ready to dive into Gnome 3. Can't wait to see more. |

Note: evolution-data-server is needed for gnome-about-me to run. |

@Ajay: Likely to be upstream. For the Intel/nVidia/ATI tests we want to make sure the kernel is alright, i.e. that it can boot the liveCD fine and that it manages to boot on the installed system post-installation. |

@Merlwiz: neat trick, I gained 3MB on each ISO with these (which is a lot considering the compression). |

Note: For the Intel, ATI, nVidia tests don't rely on Ubuntu. These were introduced because in one of our ISOs the live kernel didn't match the one in squashfs. Although we usually to stick to the same kernel as Ubuntu we build our ISOs differently and we sometimes reinstall the kernel (I did for this ISO for instance). |

You can save some space by deleting /var/cahce/debconf/*.dat-old /var/lib/aptitude/*.old /var/lib/dpkg/*-old Also you can remove some packages to add get more space. apt remove --purge eveolution-data-server libfolks-telepathy22 libtelepathy-farsight0 libtelepathy-logger2 python-telepathy telepathy-butterfly telepathy-gabble telepathy-haze telepathy-idle telepathy-logger telepathy-mission-control-5 telepathy-salut |

I had same results Exploder, no go on Apple site but was able to play quicktime video form another site. |

I passed the Intel Chipset test, everything is in place for it and it works in 11.04 so there is no reason why it would not work the same here. |

I got a quicktime music video to play, Apple's movie site would not play... Oh well. |

Ajay: The server's in London but still.. you should get more than that. I'm getting 450KB/s from here (I'd probably get more if it wasn't for my slow connection). Try to restart your download. |

Still downloading is there a faster way? And sounds like black splash screen shall be good. |

The reason the test was there initially was because of a bug in Rhythmbox's jamendo plugin that we had to fix in every release :) |
|
clem |
There are Jamendo/Magnatune plugins available but they're not enabled by default. They're also not as good as they were in Rhythmbox. It's a trade-off but there's other online archives to make up for it. |

Yes I just noticed there is no Jamendo/Magnatune plugins in this audio player. |

I'm confident the black splash screens will raise a few eyebrows but eventually be popular. The RC will hopefully confirm this :) |

@exploder: How did you test the printer test page? With a real printer? If so, did it mention which file it was printing for the test? I thought this test would fail... |
|

I passed the plymouth tests because they are intentionally blacked out. After working with the 11.04 base I can certainly understand why this change was introduced. |
|

clem |
Yes, looks like I'll need to go through the tests and update a few things ;) |

You can also ignore Jamendo/Magnatune. |

OK then I will pass the Plymouth splash screens then, may want to update test info for future testers though. |
|

@mmesantos: I'll update the test. It can be passed successfully. It's there to make sure these apps aren't branded with Ubuntu artwork. Both gimp and libreoffice feature their own splash screens so it's ok. |
|

clem |
@mmesantos: yes. |

For the Office and Gimp test, not sure how we look at it, GImp not installed by default and now using Libre Office, how do you want us to handle this test with MInt 11 Gnome CD version Clem? |

The black splash screen is by design, it's there to give the boot sequence a more continuous look. On installed system Plymouth kicks off too late, flickers and the boot sequence is too short for it to be of use... not to mention the problems/bugs it's been having since it's been adopted, with ATI/nVidia graphics. Some people might miss it, but it's a matter of adaptation, both grub and gdm feature the same artwork, and if grub isn't shown it's in line with the black splash screen. All in all, this makes a more unified boot sequence and it makes the OS look more pro and elegant. The only potential issue is with the live session, because booting from the CD takes much more time.. but there again it's ok as people can hear the CD being read, the HDD lights flashing and the system loading. Text, errors and queries should appear in either green or white, we're simply hiding the brand and the dots. |

Thanks Clem, just wanted to be sure. |

So should I pass the plymouth test then Clem? |
|
clem |
Sorry, I forgot to mention, Plymouth is 100% black in Mint 11, both text and graphical versions. For the codecs the best thing is to add them post-installation. Also notice how the menu item for the codecs disappear after they're installed. |
|

exploder |
We sould insall the codecs and the rest to complete all of the tests shouldn't we? |

Booting from Live CD gives me all black screen. Same with text boot for plymouth splash. Test Fail |
