It's not "exactly" the same. It comes close though :)

Clem:  Currently i have Carbon theme selected.   I can add the workspace-switcher withou any issuse.  I can also add the shut-off key without any issues.  But when I add the Mint-menu the CPU goes up to 100% again.

Also anytime I open the theme-selector-window a sign appears telling:  "This theme will not look like it was intended because the needed window-theme "Mint-X" is not installed."  (Free translation from Swedish)

I also must say that I installd the CD-ISO (UNetbootin), but I updated to the DVD version using the offer in the Mint-Welcome window.  Is that not the same as installing the DVD directely?

tux-sven: The 100% CPU with MATE is likely to do with the theme you selected. Also, if you select a murrine-based theme, the panel won't appear upon login... that's why Carbon is the default. On the DVD edition mintMenu is there in MATE by default. On the CD edition it isn't... but it can be added easily.

mint4win needs more complete testing. My wife would not let me complete an install on her pc...

By removing the original menu from the panel in MATE and putting the MInt menu there I get a very nice Mint-feeling back.  Can you cange that, so Mint-menu is the one set from the beginningl?  I think that would be better.

Now I have tested more about the CPU-eating during the MATE-session.   I am not shure it has to do with the Compiz activation any more.

I can get the CPU running at 100% sometimes just by adding komponents to the bottom panel, or just changing colors in the bottom panel.  I cannot change back and stop this behavior.  I have to remove the configuration-files belonging to MATE and restart (new login)

I seem to have damaged the MATE-session by activating Compiz.  It doesn't matter if I logout and login again, MATE eats nearly 100% CPU again.  But the Gnome Classic works all right.

Passed the tests that are known issues with this release to keep a more accurate account of how the testing is progressing.

I also have managed to start the Compiz-cube in the MATE environment. Compiz is not working perfect but it is possible to rotate the cube.  I have not selected Gnome-compatibility nor KDE-comptibility. Schould it be an MATE-comptibiliy?

Thanks Clem! I have the default theme back now.

Thanks Clem.  I added the MATE packages as you suggested and made new login. There it was!  I must say MATE  works much better now than ever before.   AND i does not eat CPU-power any longer. :)

In MATE file-manager I haven't still the selction "open file as root/manager".  In MATE file-manager I haven't the selection "Check MD5"

I knew about the ALT-key and I used it.  But when you hav the normal space, that means you only have ONE panel at the bottom it works withou moving the windows.;)

Normally you also can drag the bottom panel to one side. :D  Those 2 things av valuable when you have a small screen.

exploder: It's a bit tricky... Gnome 3 doesn't let you change the theme :) Well, not really. So the theme option you see in the window where you change the background, you need to ignore that.. it's useless. The place you need to go to to properly change the appearance of Gnome is the "advanced settings". It's in the favorites in the menu.

While checking out the themes I lost the default theme and can not see any way of getting it back....

tux-sven: For MATE you need to install mint-meta-mate. It's not there by default in the CD edition. For large windows, hold the Alt key to move the windows.

Started to do the localization test, I chose French as the language but when it came to selecting the keyboard layout I was not given USA in the list of choices. I only know English and I do have a US keyboard.

I am guessing that this is simply an Ubiquity issue and it does not really hurt a thing. I just thought I would mention this.

My free testing:

After a well performing customized installation in Swedish  I tried to do an update.  It was not possible to select anything in the update window  bacause my touchpad stopped working here.  Olny way I could solve this was the main switch.

I also updated to DVD-level without any problems.

After that I performed a normal update and after that also added the codecs.

The only problem I have with my little 10,1" Acer Aspire One is some installation-windows. They are too high - it's not possible  to hit the puch-buttons in the lower end of the windows.  (continue, yes etc)

I can not start MATE, it's not available as selecion during the login session.

I can say Mint 12 seems very responsive.  Unfortutately I do not love the Classic Gnome  DE, (I prefer the by Mint traditional redeigned) but I can feel there is something good under the hood. :)

It's also possibe to select "Open file as admin".

I will continue testing..
