5 It's not free, but it's perfectly compatible, ultra-light and fast, while Evince is so much slower on my machine.. as I can see, Okular is the only valid free alternative to Acroread.

2 Lourd, souvent lent. Les outils linux sont meilleurs, alors pourquoi s'encombrer de celui-là d'autant qu'Adobe ne supporte plus lesversions Linux.

4 There are a lot of very sill comments on here. For many official PDF Documents, this really is the only software that works 100% of the time. I would love it to be open, but is isn't - Get over it!

1 Avoiding anything adobe like the plague. Moreover it's horribly bloated, wasting resources even on a powerful machine is still a waste, Evince and epdfviewer are much better and free. Need to fill forms or write above ANY pdf ? take inkscape

5 I was so happy to learn I could just install Adobe Reader right out of Software Manager, instead of having to put up with whatever other PDF reader came standard. Adobe's PDF reader is great, I've used it for years. I highly recommend it to everyone.

5 I've always enjoyed Adobe Reader, as it has all the features I need in a PDF reader, and it is free. I especially like acroread as it runs natively in Linux, no need to be dependent on an inferior OS just to have a full-featured PDF reader. I'm glad that this is featured software, and I don't see what all the whining is about.

5 In the Windows community (?), I never understood the bad press Adobe Reader used to receive, and still receives, in favor of much inferior tools, just because those were “lighter” (some people evaluate software as if the limits of their hardware, system setup or skills level didn't count). I see that in Linux this lasting fad also caught. I'm sorry to crash the negative party, but I think Acroread/Adobe Reader for Linux is a very good tool, and manages to emulate the reading experience of a book or magazine for the digital environment. Great for M12 Lisa 64bit. [The program was updated for Linux on April 16, 2012; its supposed “slowness” is the flip side of its greater definition, in comparison to the default Document Viewer; but right now it suffers from an irritating bug that presents you the license dialog every time a document is opened.]

1 @newpaul I agree that Adobe Reader X is usable under Windows, but you must haven't used Foxit Reader. It just beats Adobe Reader X on every dimension. In addition, it's also 100% free. For people want more advance features (e.g. highlight, annotation, drawing), just install Foxit Reader 5 using Wine. It runs much faster and smoother than Adobe Reader, even under Wine. So I don't think there is anything left fo anyone to defend Adobe Reader. Btw, avoid the inferior Foxit Reader for Linux 1.x.

3 It's a good reader and prints very well. Still, it's overly bloated. It's just too much for a reader but at least it can natively handle all PDF features.

2 With so many free and open source .pdf readers out there, there's really no need for this. I agree with Alexio, it's unnecessarily bloated.

Alexio
3 Very bloated and seems to eat resources for no real reason. It can offer a nice variety of features for reading, so it's a bit of a trade off.
