The following is instructons to use a wifi capable laptop as a wireless internet adapter for another computer via ethernet. My laptop uses ubuntu 12 lts and my desktop recieving the connection runs mint 16

First connect the laptop to the wireless network that will provide the internet connection. Once connected, navigate to your network connection options. Set the following options with "edit connections"

Find wired connection 1 setting and click edit. Set  IPv4 to shared to other computers. Set IPv6 to ignore. make sure "available to all users" is selected at the bottom.

The next step is to configure the computer recieving the internet connection via ethernet.

In mint, Navigate to the network settings by clicking the connection icon in the bottom right corner. Select Options.

Select the wired connection icon, then click on options. Set the IPv4 settings to automatic DHCP and set the IPv6 setting to ignore

Now plug in the ethernet cable and enjoy!

hope this helps!

This should work.
However, a WiFi card in the desktop is faster, cheaper and more energy efficient :-)
