I introduced the notion of "formats", this way you can now differentiate between written tutorials, links, ebooks etc.. This solution should bring us the best of both, giving us easy access to remote content without cluttering the collection of written tutorials.

Please post full tutorials for useful things and not just links to other how-to's.

Alexio, can you link to the discussion as well? http://www.linuxmint.com/blog/?p=1165 |

I don't really think this is a good place to put links to other tutorials... the forums would probably be best for that.

I reverted back to the simple link in this case. Maybe an option to have a copy of each tutorial in PDF format would be nice.

I share your concern about the links remoulder, but in this particular example I would prefer to see a simple link rather than copied content.

I guess there are valid points either way. Perhaps some guidance notes are required on when to link and when to post in full, and on obtaining originators permission if necessary. I'm just a bit worried that with the number of possible subjects, this area could after a while just become one long list of links to (possibly invalid) links.

Another approach would be to use iFrames to show external webpages embedded in this website, but as far as I can see this feature is not available in CKEditor.

As you can see, I made a copy of the whole tutorial here. One important observation is that we need the permission to copy a tutorial published elsewhere. Also, the images are hot-linked to the original source and this is not a good practice as we are using bandwidth from the HowtoForge server.

Well, it really depends on the nature of the tutorial. For instance here, the original comes with pictures and it could come with comments too. Sometimes it's better to link to existing content, and sometimes it's better to copy/fork it.

i would like if the tutorials would be not just a link, but a full one. in this way it's easier to discus them here, and not jumping from link to link in search of the tutorial

@remoulder: I'm not sure, I guess a link is better than nothing. Also, this allows us to vote and comment external tutorials, so it does have its merits. Another method would be to copy the content and to name the source in the intro/conclusion...the added advantage of this would be that the content could then be modified and improved upon.

It seems to me that just linking to other sites kinda goes against the spirit of this section, or is this just going to become a list of links?
