qemu-kvm
"Powerful virtualisation solution, especially when used with VGA passthrough; unfortunately the documentation is a mess. Good alternative to Xen, except lack of proper management tools. 2.5 years later the documentation is still a mess! qemu 2.11 got many more features, but many are undocumented. Even the included file:///usr/share/doc/qemu-system-common/qemu-doc.html file is full of outdated info. Remember, undocumented feature = bug."

wesnoth
"I love Wesnoth. Though the dialogs could be a little shorter."
5
gsmartcontrol
"Simple, useful GUI for smartmontools. Lacks automatic email reporting etc."
4
virt-manager
"Revised my previous review: A pain in the neck if used with KVM"

xen-system-amd64
"Powerful virtulisation solution with good documentation and easy to use administration tools, offering bare metal performance especially with VGA/PCI passthrough. Compared to KVM, Xen seems more mature, while KVM offers more flexibility regarding hardware support, at the cost of incomprehensive documentation. For those who need to run MS Windows guests with native performance, Xen is the answer (along with KVM)."

xbmc
"Simply the best!"
5
luckybackup
"Excellent and very flexible backup utility, supports remote backup via SSH."

gmusicbrowser
"At first a little confusing, but once set up right its an awesome music player. Most important, it supports bit perfect audio, something that I was searching for in banshee in vain. Very fast even on a collection of ~7,000 flac files."

sound-juicer
"I used sound-juicer to rip my CD collection, some 1400 CDs, all to flac. It's a nice application, but unfortunately only uses MusicBrainz for CD identification. In many cases it couldn't identify the CD so I had to use EasyTag to add the artists and track info/tags. It should at least support freedb in addition to MusicBrainz. Otherwise it works nicely."

soundconverter
"I've used it for flac to mp3 and aac conversions and it works quite well, though it does have some bugs. For example, it doesn't work on large libraries (I always had to select a few artists/CDs, it would quit if the selection was too big). Another irritating bug is that sometimes it doesn't list all the files it transcoded. However, these are minor issues compared to the usefulness and speed of the program. Using a 6 core/12 thread CPU this little application is increadibly fast (~6-12 seconds for an entire CD)."

handbrake-gtk
"Excellent quality rips of DVDs and HD material, even when using the "normal" setting. Copes with copy protected DVDs - it worked with each and every DVD in my library. Includes the option to add or burn in subtitles, which I often use (I only watch movies with original soundtrack). I use it on Linux Mint 14 and 15."
5
banshee
"Ok for normal use with Pulse Audio. Not suitable for audiophiles since I couldn't prevent it from resampling to 48kHz."
3
gnome-disk-utility
"LVM support (unlike gparted), etc. make it very useful. "
4
cryptkeeper
"Nice and easy to use folder encryption"
