Acer (15.6’’ Laptop with core i5)
  Mint (older version)
  Works perfectly
What works:

Everything works perfectly after a few actions.

What doesn't work:

No wireless recognition at install!

">modprobe wl
> fatal error: no wl module"

No brightness control and other hot keys function.

What was done to make it work:

Connect to internet with cable and did the following:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic
sudo apt-get install --reinstall bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo modprobe wl

fixed the problem permanently.

For the brightness control and the other hot keys function:

sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

# Change the following line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux pcie_aspm=force acpi=noirq i915.i915_enable_rc6=1"

Save, close the gedit and do the following command on the terminal
sudo update-grub

After that reboot. Now all the hot keys function should work. Brightness control works too when set with the hot keys.
