  Acer (Laptop or Netbook)
  Mint (older version)
  Works perfectly
What works:

Almost everything.

What doesn't work:

The brightness control keys (Fn+left and right).

What was done to make it work:

I have modified /etc/default/grub to read:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_osi=Linux"

instead of

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

Then

sudo update-grub

Additional notes:

I'm using the 3.9.0-030900-generic i386 kernel, downloaded from

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9-raring/

During the live session I've encountered no problem with the default Linux Mint kernel, but since while running Kubuntu 13.04 I've had some nasty kernel crashes with the 3.8 kernel series, while 3.9 was rock stable, I've decided to that it's better to be on the safe side.

Kernel 3.9 works perfectly (aside the brightness keys issue, but that's easily fixed).
