  Logitech (Mouse)
  Mint (older version)
  Works partially
What works:

Left/right button. Scroll wheel. Forward/back button on the side

What doesn't work:

The thumb button at the side.

What was done to make it work:

Use xbindkeys to assign the thumb button.
1.Install xbindkeys and xsel packages with Synaptics.
2.Create a default xbindkeys config file in your home directory. Type:
$ xbindkeys --defaults > $HOME/.xbindkeysrc
3.Edit the .xbindkeysrc file you just created and add the following at the end of file (but before "# End of xbindkeys configuration #")

# Mouse Thumb Button = Google hilighted texts in Firefox
"firefox -remote "openURL(http://www.google.com/search?q=$(xsel),new-tab)""

Note: b:10 means button 10 on the mouse. This is the thumb button. Here I assigned it to search for hilighted texts using Firefox. I needed xsel for the hilighted texts. You can, however, assign the key to do whatever you like.

4. Save the file.
5. If xbindkeys is already running kill it. Then type xbindkeys_autostart to start xbindkeys with the new configuration.
6. Add xbindkeys_autostart to your Startup Applications (Menu > Preferences > Startup Applications).
