  MSI (Motherboard)
  Mint (older version)
  Isn't detected or recognized
What works:

Ubuntu 12.04, 12.10, 13.04, 13.10 and Linux Mint based on those releases.

What doesn't work:

Did work perfectly before, but since Ubuntu/Mint 14.04 it crashes after install with a black screen at login - reboots by itself and hangs at EFI.

My advice - stay away from AMD A-series FM2 APUs and motherboards, and especially MSI FM2-A55M-E33 in combination with AMD A4-5300 APU. Perhaps it is kernel incompatible or something.

Go for an all Intel setup instead, perhaps with NVIDIA graphics. Works out of the box, less grief compared to AMD which in my experience is all about grief and regret...

What was done to make it work:

Replaced the new crappy AMD PC with my old trusty Intel Core2 Quad 6600 with a silent NVIDIA graphics card.

Going to sell the MSI AMD A-series PC on Ebay to some Windows user.

Additional notes:

Linux users - stay away from the AMD A-series! It's cheap for a reason...
