  Sony (Laptop or Netbook)
  Mint (older version)
Works fine with some minor problems
What works:

Everything works fine... including the graphics, speakers, ...

What doesn't work:

there's a problem with my microphone... as of now it's not working... in the properties i can select from two microphones, but none of the works... this must be due to driver installation.. would be nice if this update could be included in Linux Mint release so users like me wouldn't "look" for the driver...
the device is: RealTek High Definition

What was done to make it work:

In order to get the microphone working i needed to install the latest driver software...
i DL'ed it from:
select the appropriate device (High Definition or AC'97)
then select OS (Unix)
and install...
note that for Ubuntu users (and Linux Mint) it is recommended to use manual installation instead of the automatic installation, so:
after downloading the package, using sudo:
- Unzip source code
tar xfvj alsa-driver-1.0.xx.tar.bz2
- Complied source code
cd alsa...
./configure --with-cards=hda-intel
make install
- Reboot
