  Toshiba (Laptop or Netbook)
  Mint (older version)
Works fine with some minor problems
What works:

Mint 17.1 32-bit installs and goes online.

What doesn't work:

None of the Toshiba Fn-keys worked OOB, so the brightness was not adjustable. There is no option in Cinnamon to select a manufacturer-specific keyboard model. Editing shortcuts in keyboard control panel did not work because it would not detect Fn-modified key presses.
Both toshset and fnfxd report that toshiba_acpi modules are missing from the kernel, but there is no such kernel option in Synaptic.

What was done to make it work:

Updated BIOS to version 6, brightness controls and audio-mute started to work. fnfxd software did not have an effect either way.

Additional notes:

Intel 945gm chipset, BIOS 6.0, everything works in Windows XP.
