Mint 5 works fine and is much faster than any newer releases.
Suspend and Hibernate worked after adding the user to the powerdev group, as reported in Ubuntu forums.
|What doesn't work:|
Mint 5 will not connect to ad-hoc wireless networks, infrastructure only.
Mouse pointer disappears upon adjustment of screen brightness. I believe the problem is with Xorg. With the original release version it is possible to bring back the mouse pointer by vigorously moving the PS/2 mouse or rubbing the Synaptics touchpad. After updating Xorg from default repositories this technique does not help, necessitating a full reboot. BTW Ubuntu 8.04 has the same exact problem.
|What was done to make it work:|
A workaround is to adjust brightness while paused on OS selection screen (GRUB). I have also set to "display the location of pointer when Ctrl key is pressed", in mouse properties. In case of unintentional brightness adjustment this helps with finishing tasks and saving files before reboot.
Same hardware as Gateway 200STM, same mouse pointer problem. Intel 830m chipset with integrated VGA. Mercury lid switch.
