  Sony VAIO (Laptop or Netbook)
  Mint (older version)
Works fine with some minor problems
What works:

Wireless, Bluetooth, LAN, Audio, Player buttons control, Audio and brightness control (without Nvidia driver), Fan, Battery Info

What doesn't work:

With Nvidia Driver, brightness control doesn't work.
Buttons "Assist", "S1" and "VAIO".
The scroll function.

What was done to make it work:

-Scroll function
You have to use the following command:

echo "options psmouse proto=imps"|sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf; sudo modprobe -r psmouse; sudo modprobe psmouse

-LCD Brightness control
This is fixable by editing one's xorg.conf file. Open a terminal window and type the following:

sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

This will open your X server configuration (after prompting for your password). You should see a section titled "Device" that looks as follows:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Default Device"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
EndSection

Append a line so it appears like this:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Default Device"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
EndSection

You will need to restart your graphical server (or reboot) for this change to take effect.
