@jse654:
Thank you for your comments and support!
Sorry for my delayed reply.
Thank you @oscar799 for putting this forward!
I am marking this idea "Considered"
@trollboy:
Yes, it would be able to gather statistics more accurately than the present state.
As a 64 bit LMDE XFCE user I think this is a wonderful idea. And it would be really useful for stat gathering.
@compuman2004:
Thank you for your support.
I think this issue also should be solved as soon as possible.
I guess some of (or many?) members are puzzled that they cannot choose their Edition correctly.
@blueXrider:
The important point of this idea is...
For example,
LM 9 Isadora has / GNOME / KDE / Xfce / LXDE / Fluxbox / Edition, and each Edition has / 32-bit / 64-bit / except LXDE and Fuluxbox.
There are some users who use KDE 64-Bit, but they have no way to choose their Edition, because there isn't 'KDE x64 Edition' in pull down menu to choose Edition.
Did you understand about above?
Then, I would answer to your question "Once collected, what do you purpose the data be used for?"
For example,
A user posted an idea which suggest some improvement of function or request to fix some issues, but they have already be implemented or be fixed on Katya.
Then, maybe Katya users would like to click on [Don't care] or [Demote] without any comment..., But just a moment!
It is need to make sure what Edition does he/she use.
If once made sure that he/she is a user of Julia or Isadora etc, Katya users would be able to add comment which explain the matter.
So I think the information about user's Release and Edition is also useful for us.
What do you think about this?
@blueXrider: I think at least part of the reason they allow people to optionally put in their system info (other than just a bit of fun) is so that they can get a good idea of what the interests of their users are. For example, if more people are using x64 than x32 (I know, not true, but just go with it), then they know that more of their attention should be aimed at that version.
I think what @kazztan0325 is getting at is that they aren't able to put their specific version (x64 Mint KDE) into their account, and would like to be able to (even just for fun, if not for statistical reasons). That's reasonable, I think.
Sorry, to interrupt here.
I feel unclear as to what advantage we could ascertain from your idea. I don't care to look at someone else's systems properties. Someone else may, but not me.
I'm sure that the developers know how many downloads of which release are in use and have reports that include what updates were issued daily. I see no advantage to the info within the community.
Stats are just a summary of data.
Are we to provide more data for the stats? Should we register system 1, then system 2, and then system 3?
Once collected, what do you purpose the data be used for?
What is the plan?
Hummmmm. Don't know. Do They?
Is it that YOU purpose WE include all OUR systems, all our hardware, all our programs. The architecture in which system has operating at the time?
I'm Confused. The end user should know what/which op system they use. If they state that they are using x64 when they are really using x32 then the data has been corrupted. So as to what advantage is it really?
Whew!........This could really become a nightmare. I really don't want to become the devils advocate here, but what does the community get from the info?
@blueXrider:
Please see Account Details page again.
For example,
Is it possible that Xfce x64 users choose their Edition correctly?
Account Details?
The Stats already show Releases|Editions Includes x64 as Architecture as well. I don't see the need.
More than one set of pull down menu - it's a great idea.
This should give us more possibilities to analyze and compare various releases, environments, architectures.
@RayWoods, Thank you for your comment which make up for my idea.
There should be more than one set of pull down menu, shouldn't there? (e.g.
like below)
1. Main PC
* Release: [choose one]
* Desktop Environment: [choose one]
* Architecture: [choose one]
2. Second PC (if any)
* Release: [choose one]
* Desktop Environment: [choose one]
* Architecture: [choose one]
3. Third PC (if any)
* Release: [choose one]
* Desktop Environment: [choose one]
* Architecture: [choose one]
Quite a lot of us run more than one computer with different editions as the OS (be it desktops, architecture or series edition).
