Tweak Gnome 3 to provide a similar interface like Gnome 2

A lot of people (me included) are very comfortable with Gnome 2. But for how long Gnome 2 will be supported? I guess a few years, and then the support will fade away. So like it or not, Gnome 3 is the future. But we can change the future to our likings, right? ;)

One way is to tweak the Gnome 3 Shell.

The other way is to use the Gnome 3 Fallback Mode in use with Extensions.

Best would be, if both would look as close as possible.

when Linus Torvalds is calling gnome 3 as 'holy holy mess' and asking to fork it, it should be done sooner or later.

Lets use Awn in the main edition, with the mint menu as an applet.

It would make Mint similar to W7 and iOS. Awn's way of handling windows is easier after some adjustment, and facilitates for new users.

Forget Gnome3 and Unity for the time being and try Xfce or Lxde/Openbox. They are fine after some learning.

I was rather estonished about Lxde. One can make it as large and
functional as one likes with Xfce-applications and KDE.
I had to get accustomed to the panels and the menu-editor is not
ready yet, but it's a good Desktop.

And much faster then Gnome, although me too, I'm sad Gnome goes 3.

O.k. That's that...
And then there is left the UEFI/EFI M$ optional Linux-blokkade.
After that: Desktop-Linux will have a fantastic future maybe even
on tablet.

I think we had stated that it would soon fork. Thanks for the info @Alexio:

There is a fork of GNOME2, called the MATE Desktop Environment.

The project's overview is just: "MATE Desktop Environment, a non-intuitive and unattractive desktop for users, using traditional computing desktop metaphor. Also known as the GNOME2 fork."

So far the project is mostly about maintaining the GNOME2 packages, but there's talk of developing a new control panel and other original work to the project. There is an AUR repository available for Arch Linux users.

Before posting you might want to research the idea.
