Open .jar file with OpenJDK

One used to be able to open a .jar file easily, by using the Open With... Recommended Applications dialog and selecting OpenJDK. However, that is no longer an option in the Open With window. This is a problem that has been known since April 2015, as seen in this post: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=194745
It can be corrected with the steps outlined here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=201171&p=1045643&hilit=openjdk#p1045643

However, this should only be a temporary solution. Replace the .desktop file so that this is possible from the GUI again.

Something so simple as opening a .jar file should not be made so difficult. This problem most definitely drives new users away from Linux Mint. Why should getting Minecraft running require searching the forums?

@Martin_Ziegler: You probably mean “launcher” ;-)

You can create an applet with command
"java - jar /path/to/minecraft.jar"

It is rather a support issue.
