Like the gnome-app-install and the Ubuntu Software Center, I think mint-install should be able show icons when surfing through the app.

this is a mock up:

But anyway i think it gives the whole app a nicer and more professional look and most important, it is more appealing to new users

png and xpm. When the package is built it converts them to 32x32.

I worked a bit on this idea and I'm planning to add it to Mint 10. Here's what it looks like: http://imagebin.ca/img/wjtGCK.png

Basically, mintinstall works with or without icons. The icons are provided by a new package called mintinstall-icons, which mintinstall "recommends". The package is 4MB at the moment and depends on imagemagik (because it composes images with the little installed emblem during post-installation).. .altogether that represents 8MB on the hard drive. Of course we need to add more, so we'll probably end up with 10MB. I can't guarantee there'll be enough space on the liveCD for this, but it could be present on the DVD edition for sure. Let's see how things go.

I couldn't agree more! That would complete the great Mint Install.
