Description:

The eclipse platform is an open and extensible platform for anything and yet nothing in particular. it provides a foundation for constructing and running integrated software-development tools. the eclipse platform allows tool builders to independently develop tools that integrate with other people's tools so seamlessly you can't tell where one tool ends and another starts.

this package provides the whole eclipse sdk, along with the java development tools (jdt) and the plugin development environment (pde). please note that many plugins will fail to install if you don't have the eclipse-pde package installed.

1 Sluggy interface, eats my RAM, if you want to do sth. no Plugin exist for, you'll end up either writing a plugin, or with an "unclean workspace (you'll see errors that are none)"

3 It is a good IDE indeed. It's made to be a Java IDE(a very good one in my opinion), but can with the help of some plugins be a Python or C++ IDE too. I don't like the fac that it is slow sometimes(loading for example) and that its interface is not a really great one(I'm reffering strictly to the menus). I recommend this IDE for any Java and Python programmer!

5 It's a love 'n hate story for me and Eclipse... There are times I can't live without (take PHP step-by-step debugging with the awesome Zend debugger plugin...) and times when I hate its heaviness so much that I use anything else, just for being light, it's good to use something light for a change! From bluefish and geany to vim and nano. :)
