2 weeks ago Architecture: amd64 Type: Cinnamon Status: Approved for BETA release |
FWIW;
The kernel removal completed eventually/slowly;
The gscan2pdf bug was confirmed upstream, ubuntu willing to put patch into the package.
Approved for BETA.
enyc I added a bug report for the manually installed kernel pkg (confirmed).
autoremoved kernels isn't enabled by default because we're not happy with how it's implemented in MintUpdate yet. It's on the roadmap to improve that.
Something odd happened (I have not tried to reproduce on other machines, etc). On cryptswap testing in virtulabox, as already mentioned.
Firstly, in "apt-mark showmanual" I notice the specific linux-image-6.8.0-49-generic is manually installed [why?!?!], suspecting this is likely to break old kernel autoremovals later after install as -50 -51 kernels get installed, -49 "manual" and thus won't be autoremoved later [?].
Secondly, even on this new apt-kit based system, with separate /boot, the automatic removal of old kernels automation is not enabled, setting users up for a wedged/broken package system after a few kernel updates as their /boot fills up. Essentially, wondering if apt-kit means this issue can be sorted properly [?].
Thirdly, if upon boot into this aforementioned testing vm, if I do NOT install aptkit update currently offered, and immediately go into Linux Kernels submenu and try to install extra kernels e.g. older 6.8.0-47-generic and 6.8.0-48-generic , the whole kernel installer wedges (seemingly), never completing. This could be some vbox bug and nothing todo with mint, but I just make the latter observation briefly incase it is actually indicative of another issue.
Note, not all systems will give a splash-screen, some video configs want to use native text mode; SO -- the native text prompt should also be fixed as well as plymouth and UEFI console scenarios for prompts.
Agreed. The plymouth theme might be able to better support cryptsetup. We'll try to tackle this during BETA.
Legacy booting an encrypted install (in this case Virtualbox 7.0.20 host) gives poorly done pasphrase prompt.
Comes up in text mode: Please unlock disk sda4_crypt with no : or space, no splash/cover screen ... it does actually work but in my view prompt for encryption passphrase should be better.
More helpful view/suggestion: In updated MintUpdate, aptkit/aptdaemon etc -- In my view, we shouldn't be requiring user to authenticate for normal routine updates, the whole special authenticate screen should only appear for special/configuration changes. As-is, users become too accustomed to just authenticating, in my view.
3 smaller notes:-
1) Ubuntu 24.04, Very useful perl program / package "gscan2pdf" works fine, mint 22 or 22.1-alpha-test not-so, seems the /etc/upstream-release being a directory rather than a file triggers a failure, may not really be a mint-issue but this is a notable functional regression compared to straight ubuntu, seemingly.
2) In the drop-down (show log) while installing, there are a large number of worrying looking repeated errors/messages, may in fact be of no consequence.
3) horribly error about unmounting /cdrom while waiting to press enter at close down, similar minor but looks poor.
No, it's gone. We maintain too many themes (Cinnamon, Mint-X, Mint-Y, Mint-L..) already. There are many themes available in spices also.
I noticed a small issue with the themes. For those using Mint-X who prefer a dark start menu, 'Linux Mint' is no longer present. I understand the work being done with the default 'Cinnamon' I copied over the 'Linux Mint' desktop theme from LM 22.0. and applied it with Mint-X. Any chance this can also be included in 22.1?
We're moving towards themed categories. For now we only have "wallpapers" which consists in colorful wallpapers.
Wilma was included to provide a few landscapes.
I did not see this time a set of curated wallpapers for 'Xia'. There seemed to be a generic set from GNOME and others.
