Back In Time is a framework for rsync and cron for the purpose of taking snapshots and backups of specified folders. It minimizes disk space use by taking a snapshot only if the directory has been changed, and hard links for unmodified files if it has. The user can schedule regular backups using cron.

This is the graphical interface for Back In Time.

I found the UI confusing and dated. Once you get your head around everything though it works well.

Works perfectly, easy to customize. Can also run as root, for backing up root home and other related data. Actively updated.

This app looks deprecated. Maybe it was good in its day. Despite many attemts I was unsuccessful in getting the app to reconnect to the backintime archive on my separate internal SSD partition. Maybe it works to store a BIT archive on the same volume, but what's the point of that? Advice: Just use the Linux Mint tools instead -- Time Shift, Backup Tool and Backups.
