Celestia is a free 3d astronomy program. based on the hipparcos catalogue, it allows users to display objects ranging in scale from artificial satellites to entire galaxies in three dimensions using opengl. unlike most planetarium software, the user is free to travel about the universe.

this is a dummy package that selects at least one frontend for celestia.

Stellarium is more fun if all you want is planetarium software, but you can do a lot of really cool things with this.

Note: Pour avoir les textures de tous les corps célestes connus, il suffit d'installer les paquets "non-free"... Et après, que du bonheur.

It's pretty good but why do the bookmarked locations start zoomed so far out? When selecting earth, you have to zoom in more than 20 AUs (lots of mousewheel scrolling). Didn't this also have decent textures for the various planets as well as a nice Gnome UI?

Always loved this program! But since I've switched to Mint, I can't get the GTK version (which I prefer) to run. The KDE version works well enough, though.

Outstanding educational tool for astronomy and astrophysics. Good scripting language for automation; extendable and genuinely entertaining.
