This package contains place names, population and location information provided by the u.s. census bureau, formatted for use by the dictionary server in the dictd package. zip code information has been merged with the place name data.

this package is based on the 1990 census, and is superceded by dict-gazetteer2k, which is based on the 2000 census. the information in these packages is formated differently, and some information in this package is not found in dict-gazetteer2k.
