FSArchiver is a system tool that allows you to save the contents of a file system to a compressed archive file. The file system can be restored on a partition which has a different size and it can be restored on a different file system. Unlike tar/dar, FSArchiver also creates the file system when it extracts the data to partitions. Everything is checksummed in the archive in order to protect the data. If the archive is corrupt, you just lose the current file, not the whole archive.

Does not support vfat. Not useful for backup of flash media.

Your last chance to clone a disk if Clonezilla & Co fail to boot, because you can install it from within a live session of Linux Mint too with: sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get -y install fsarchiver

I use version Qt4 fsarchiver. It gives me (visually) more controll over the backup & restore process. Suited for Desktop and Laptops, even live backup is posible, although a warning is shown. The best thing is that you can ad a note to the backup, in which you can for example note the configuration. LM version 17 amd64
