Package to ease upgrading from gsynaptics to gpointing-device-settings. reason for this is that gsynaptics is not compatible with recent xservers and upstream now develops gpointing-device-settings instead.

this package can be purged at anytime once the gpointing-device-settings package has been installed.

In Mint13 it is replaced with gpointing-device-settings. Use that instead !!

it doesn't show up after installation and my NEC laptop's touchpad is still not working. I don't know what else to do.

GSynaptics will be obsolete and you should try the GPointing Device Settings GUI tool for setting pointing device such as TrackPoint or Touchpad.
