The hibernate script helps you in putting your computer to sleep, using one of the various methods available in the kernel.

Hibernate can take care of loading and unloading modules, provides various hacks needed to get some video cards to resume properly under X, can optionally restart networking and system services, and basically do whatever else you ask it. It can be extended by writing new "scriptlets" which run at different points during the suspend process.

Currently the script supports all suspend mechanisms available through the /sys/power/state interface (including ACPI suspend and the in-kernel software suspend), as well as TuxOnIce.

Have not tried it. However the script seems quite dated (2014) and designed for 2.6 kernel. It is not LinuxMint specific. I would recommand rather to consult the LM Forum: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=284100 [Comment dated july 2020]

I have read of two people who liked this in this forum related to MacBooks: Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon won't Sleep on Macbook Pro - SOLVED. Here's the link before I try it: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=253836

Haven't tried it. Refers to the website tuxonice.net which is some bizarre magazine site and has zero to do with the tuxonice kernel extensions. Dated as it seems. So I installed and read the man page and it says it's designed to use tuxoice that you can get from that website. Hmmm... maintenace man, fix it!
