Nautilus is the official file manager for the GNOME desktop. It allows one to browse directories, preview files and launch applications associated with them. It is also responsible for handling the icons on the GNOME desktop. It works on local and remote filesystems.

Several icon themes and components for viewing different kinds of files are available in separate packages.

Love how Search runs, ie. like in Windows Explorer, and that alone won me over. Install dconf to fine-tune Nautilus to your liking, ie. single clicking, and you got yourself a fine and dandy file manager.

A pale shadow of what once was; without dual pane and nemo's follow-along terminals, the only thing it has left of admiration is a very stable smb connection. such a shame.

Not that good. Crappy handling of metadata, relies on that insipid "gvfs-metadata" junk which makes file handling (moving e.g.) extremely slow, and this "zeitgeist" spyware junk, hate that. I'm looking for something better.

Too basic and very few options. All the menus in one button are quite annoying. It has a very good file search, though. Prefer Thunar or other more comples.

I'm running Mint 16, Nemo is extremely slow and buggy. I was trying to transfer files and it kept stalling and crashing, so I installed Nautilus, very fast, light weight, no stalling or crashing. AWESOME! thanks Nautilus.
