Fractal is a Matrix messaging app for GNOME written in Rust. Its interface is optimized for collaboration in large groups, such as free software projects, and will fit all screens, big or small.
Highlights:
It has minimalist GNOME design. It doesn't support spaces, though, so it treats rooms and rooms you've joined in spaces to be displayed on the same front page. You can't join other rooms in spaces that you haven't joined yet. It's fast and sleek and I'd argue it compares nicely with Element as long as you're okay with the absent spaces feature.
