Xplanet renders an image of a planet into an X window or a file. All of the major planets and most satellites can be drawn, and different map projections are also supported, including azimuthal, hemisphere, Lambert, Mercator, Mollweide, Peters, polyconic, and rectangular.

In order to run xplanet, you'll need at least one map file. Some maps are included in the xplanet-images package.

I tried "xplanet -num_times 1 -verbosity 3" ... Nothing found.

FFS. Another command line tool, that needs a phd in nuclear physics to run. It could at least function with some defaults enabled. I don't have a week to study it thanks, I'll run an earth screensaver instead. I believe it's time the programs changed philosophy. Really

It takes some doing, but this program can be used to make beautiful renderings of just about any body in the solar system. I use a script to render earth as a projection superimposed with recent cloud cover data and a day/night filter to make an interesting desktop background.
