 How to reset compiz settings to default system settings from command-line

If you accidently messed up your Gnome while adjusting transparent or opacity settings and you want to reset Compiz; try this:

 

write down this tip before exiting.

1. exit out of Gnome if you can, if you can't the keystroke is: alt +Ctrl + Backspace

2. from login (Signin) screen, put in your user name if needed, and your password. Don't sign in yet.

3. look below the user name and password dialog box and click on session.  Change session from 'Gnome' to 'Gnome Fail Safe'.

4. Now login 

5. Open the terminal and run the following command

 

gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz

6. Finally restart your system

7.Repeat Step 2 and 3, but this time when you select 'Session', switch back from 'Gnome fail-safe' to 'Gnome'

8. Login and everything should be restored.
