I have confirmed this works on Linux Mint-10-Julia, Ubuntu 10.04 & 10.10, as well as Kubuntu 10.10 if you want to use Compiz in a KDE environment.
It has also worked for others with different Intel cards, although not all of them.
1) After install, work in a tty (Control + Alt + F1). and remove the following.
sudo aptitude remove compiz compiz-core
2) After that, reinstall/install the following.
sudo apt-get install compiz compiz-core fusion-icon emerald simple-ccsm
3) Back to the graphic environment (Ctrl + Alt + F7) and run Compiz Fusion Icon (Menu > System tools > Compiz Fusion Icon.
4) The compiz fusion icon should appear in your notification bar, right click -> Compiz options -> Indirect Rendering
5) Select Window Manager >Compiz<
6) Run compiz icon at the start-up:
Menu > Preferences > Start up apps > Add
Name: Compiz Fusion Icon
Command: fusion-icon -f
Comment: Stop freezing problem (optional)
7) Reboot
Once again in the desktop, Compiz should work properly. Configure it with
simple-ccsm
