DENNIS TREPANIER

Retired Submarine Officer - U.S.NAVY

Dennis Trepanier previously worked as a Senior Systems Analyst for Logicon, a Division of Northrop-Grumman. Dennis Trepanier retired as a Lieutenant Commander after receiving his Master's Degree in Information Technology Management from the United States Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

Dennis began his Naval Nuclear Submarine Career in 1980 when he was interviewed and selected by Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, father of the Nuclear Submarine. He completed the vigorous demands of the Nuclear Propulsion Training Pipeline at Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida, and S5G Nuclear Prototype Reactor in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

His first submarine assignment was the USS Queenfish (SSN 651), a 637 Class Fast Attack submarine in overhaul at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Washington. He was the Chemistry and Radiological Controls Officer. After completing the 16-month overhaul and Sea Trials, the ship became operational and home-ported out of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The ship was deployed in the Western Pacific and then conducted under ice operations at the North Pole. He was the Reactor Controls Officer, the Communicator, the Top Secret Control Officer, and finally qualified as Nuclear Engineer. At that time, Queenfish was the highest decorated ship in the United States Navy.

After a two year shore tour as a Nuclear Reactor Prototype instructor at S5G Prototype in Idaho Falls, Idaho, his next Sea assignment was the Strategic Weapons Officer on the TRIDENT Class submarine, USS Alaska (SSBN 732). He was also the Nuclear Weapons Safety Officer, in charge of the ship's security forces and training. He performed numerous at-sea wartime training scenarios, helicopter transfer Operations, and completed a flawless test launch of two TRIDENT C-4 missiles.

After his sea tour on the USS ALASKA, He completed another shore tour at TRIDENT Training Facility Bangor, WA, as the Manager and Lead Instructor of 17 officer and enlisted instructors. By the end of this tour, he taught every Commanding Officer in the Pacific TRIDENT fleet on the TRIDENT Weapon System.

He received the Navy Commendation Medal, two Navy Achievement Medals, the National Defense medal for alert operations during Operation Desert Storm, two Meritorious Unit Commendations, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

He has been married to Mary Chambers since 1985, and has four children, Rick, Jennifer, Natalie, and Denise.
