I learned Linux on Slackware back when it took 5.25" floppy disks to install from. I set up a web and email server for my employer in our remote office. Later I switched to Red Hat 3.2 and learned the same stuff. Still, later on, I set up the same on Fedora 2 (officially spelled "fedora") until v9 came out and broke things, so I stayed on fedora 8 until the hardware eventually failed. I've been using Linux Mint as my daily driver since the founder of PCLinuxOS, Bill Reynolds (Texstar) got sick and the updates to that very awesome distribution stopped coming. I found Linux Mint then, and haven't looked back. It just works and works very well.

I've been lucky enough to have worked for companies who didn't care what OS I ran, as long as I could do my job. Other than a couple of employers who just didn't get it. Both have had problems, which is expected when management is not flexible enough to allow employees the tools they need to do their jobs. When supporting Linux-based products using Linux makes things so much easier.

In my personal life, I've been married since early in 1977 to my best friend and have children and grandchildren who we care about, and who care about us.

I volunteer at our local state prison teaching family history research and a process called "Indexing" which makes paper-based records available in electronic format to FamilySearch.org and Ancestry.com.
