Endless Sky is a sandbox-style space exploration game similar to Elite, Escape Velocity, or Star Control. You start out as the captain of a tiny spaceship and can choose what to do from there. The game includes a major plot line and many minor missions, but you can choose whether you want to play through the plot or strike out on your own as a merchant or bounty hunter or explorer.

While I ended up using the appimage form the github, this Game is amazing. This is a beautiful recreation and extension of the Escape Velocity type games from the 90s! This and Naev are wonderful community projects and available on Linux.

I've been playing this game for years and it's loads of fun... Fun storyline. If you've ever played Privateer or Escape Velocity, you'll be familiar with the open world, "better-yourself, your ship, your fleet" gameplay. Poke around at the spaceports and you'll find the integrated story lines. Community developed and maintained, has great artwork and fun storylines!
