Extundelete uses the information stored in the partition's journal to attempt to recover a file that has been deleted. There is no guarantee that any particular file will be able to be undeleted.

Included help is rubbish and miss-indicates the procedure, error messages are no help either. To recover a directory example should be: sudo extundelete --restore-directory /media/user/RESTORE/ /dev/sde1 where /media/user/RESTORE/ is the location for restored files and /dev/sde1 is the location to be restored, which must also be unmounted.
