Direct connect is a peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing protocol. Clients connect to a central hub where they can view a list of clients or users connected to them. Users can search for files and download them from other clients, as well as chat with other users.

The most popular Windows client implementing this protocol currently is DC++. LinuxDC++ is a Linux port of DC++. Though it is primarily aimed at Linux, it has been shown to work on other Unix-based operating systems as well.

It seems to be not working anymore. No activity - downloading file lists, searching.

Very bad connection, download not from all available users, freezes when sharing about 50 GB.Even with Wine FlylinkDC++ work much better!

DOES work now. do set the mode to passive when having connection problems. The only DC++ i got to work from the repo. large list of servers and users with file sharing - looks like napster but then for all types of files.

Often hangs up. Window section have different sizes on each start (really annoying). I did not find any DC++ client that could compare to StrongDC++ on Win yet :(

I had to use StrongDC++ in Windows realm. linuxdcpp satisfies all my demands to share, search & download from DC networks.

The fork Freedcpp, is in the lead on this project (imho) and offers an example theme and a media pack with sounds and emoticons. It's more stable than Linuxdcpp but can only be installed via PPA. Must give thanks to the dev team for porting this to Linux however and following up with submitted bug reports.
