Dune Legacy is an effort by a handful of developers to revitalize the
first-ever real-time strategy game. The original game was the basis
for the hugely successful Command and Conquer series, and the gameplay
has been replicated an extended to a wide variety of storylines and
series.
NOTE: Original Dune 2 game files are needed.

It is an improvement on the original Dune II DOS game which was the first Realtime Strategy game. It needs the data files from the original DOS game, which you can find on abandonware sites. It adds some modern RTS controls like group select of units and queue build that were not in the original game as it was the first in this genre and such concepts were not yet around. It also adds some new actions for units like hunt and guard area. The graphics are scalable for modern screens which are much bigger than the original VGA resolution. There is a limited ability to mod the stats of buildings and units. All in all a good way to replay Dune II on modern operating systems like Linux, MacOS and Windows.
