widelands
"This game is similar to The Settlers. It is mainly about managing an economy, building up resources, then conquering another player's land. You will get stuck quite a lot if you are new to it, like when you run out of a certain type of material that is needed to build the building that makes that material. Common bottlenecks are the supply of logs and iron ore. I find the campaigns a bit too difficult for my liking but in the single map games the difficulty can be adjusted."

com.voxdsp.Borg
"The main problem with this software is the lack of any documentation on how to use it. There also does not seem to be a way to zero or reset the settings. "

net.sourceforge.DuneLegacy
"It is an improvement on the original Dune II DOS game which was the first Realtime Strategy game. It needs the data files from the original DOS game, which you can find on abandonware sites. It adds some modern RTS controls like group select of units and queue build that were not in the original game as it was the first in this genre and such concepts were not yet around. It also adds some new actions for units like hunt and guard area. The graphics are scalable for modern screens which are much bigger than the original VGA resolution. There is a limited ability to mod the stats of buildings and units. All in all a good way to replay Dune II on modern operating systems like Linux, MacOS and Windows."

notepadqq
"It would be nice if it was reliable but notepadqq is prone to randomly crash, which causes you to lose any unsaved data. It does seem to periodically auto save a cache but this may be older than the last save you did, and when you restart it after a crash, it loads the older cached copy instead of the more recent saved copy. Because it is not reliable, it can be frustrating to type a lot of text only to lose it when it crashes."
