Oolite is a space sim game, inspired by Elite, powered by Objective-C and OpenGL, and designed as a small game that is easy for users to pick up, modify and expand upon. Almost every aspect of the game can be changed by using simple, free graphics packages and text-editors.

The purpose of the game is to fly from planet to planet, buying and selling goods, shooting pirates or committing acts of piracy.

Very good faithful remake of Elite, and with mods, even surpasses the original! Can get repetative after a while, but excellent for short bursts.

Absolutely marvellous because, for one thing, of endless user-written expansion packs and a very friendly bulletin board. If installed via web, download file needs to be have its last suffix removed and then, once the installer file is extracted from the archive, it needs to be run in a terminal/as a script.

The newest version can always be found at oolite.org. One of the best open-source games ever!

Eve Online borrows a lot from this game-- and this is more fun to play! Instructions and mods can be found at the community wiki: http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oolite_Main_Page

Classic. Loved Elite on my C64. Oolite continues on.

If you loved Elite, this is for you. Trade, bounty hunt, salvage or pirate your way to the rank of Elite in this open ended game in which the word "Harmless" is the greatest insult! But, please devs can we have the latest version in the repositories as it has come on a long long way?

Fantastic. I love this game, but where is the latest version? The Linux mint bosses need sacking. :)

I'm completely addicted. Highly playable and customizable, but 1.65 is out-of-date.

Really not good. It's a kind of game, where you don't know what to do :)

Old. But classic, playable, open-ended and addictive. They don't make 'em like this anymore!
