Wine is a compatibility layer for running windows applications on linux. applications are run at full speed without the need of cpu emulation. wine does not require microsoft windows, however it can use native system dll files in place of its own if they are available.

this package includes a program loader for running unmodified windows executables as well as the wine project's free version of the windows api for running programs ported from windows.

Tried like 10 windows programs, only 1 worked. The best solution to run windows programs is definitely virtual box.

As of WINE 1.7 in Petra, it runs very well, from simple Windows programs to things like Orcad and Design CAD 3dmax, both of which are fairly large programs

The last Wine that worked was v1. All never versions have been crippled to support nothing. We need a custom build Wine, that can run it all by default!

it does not work with all the software i'd like it to work with so that i could abandon windows altogether but it's fine enough and keeps majority of programs in at the very least usable state :)
