Firefox 9 is available in the Mozilla team PPA.
To install Firefox 9, run the following commands in the terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firefox ubufox
This works brilliently and I recommend that now that Firefox comes up with a stable release every six weeks or so, these simple commands can be scheduled in for automatic updates.
Not working in Mint 12.
I updated again the tutorial for the latest Firefox version available from the PPA.
Thank you all for the kind words!
The tutorial is now updated for the Firefox version available from the PPA.

@backtogeek - Thank you for creating a tutorial version specific for LMDE. I am using right now the latest XFCE version of Linux Mint, using the Debian Testing repositories.
Related to my tutorial, specific for the Ubuntu-based versions of Linux Mint, a video tutorial about Upgrading to Firefox 4 on Mint 10 is available on the Linux Mint Community Videos website.
I put a bigger guide up on my blog (repost) that should help anyone that stumbles by like me!
