nano

small, friendly text editor inspired by Pico
http://www.nano-editor.org/
Score:
 121
74 reviews
Description:

GNU nano is an easy-to-use text editor originally designed as a replacement for Pico, the ncurses-based editor from the non-free mailer package Pine (itself now available under the Apache License as Alpine).

However, nano also implements many features missing in pico, including:
- feature toggles;
- interactive search and replace (with regular expression support);
- go to line (and column) command;
- auto-indentation and color syntax-highlighting;
- filename tab-completion and support for multiple buffers;
- full internationalization support.

5 Wonderful! Simple and very reliable. I use this over gedit or leafpad when needing to edit important files (like /etc/rc.local). Works flawlessly with many file types and any file type I've ever used. Thanks guys!

4 simple, single mode and easy to use text editor which always shows the most important commands, context sensitive which is rare at the terminal. therefore the learning cruve is flat, on one hand, but commands are less intuitive than most other editors.

5 linux does not mean nano. But nano is a super great tool. It is made for people who dislike vi(m) and still won't like to deal with gedit!
