openshot
"Open shot is an excellent video editor. The multi-track capability is a notable advantage over other similar programs. The program works great most times, with an occassional crash. Other than that, the effects and transitions are more than enough for those seriously involved with video editing. Many programs are concerned with just the effects, the transitions, etc. A serious editor will not be using dozens of different transitions in a video. It's overkill and quite annoying. Building a video from pictures and snippets of video, what have you, is done very well in openshot and I would highly recommend it."

2mandvd
"This program works pretty good after you come to understand it's quirky nature. I really like it. I compiled it from source, which I recommend as it runs better and has a couple added options. At time it is prone to crash, but it is a very good dvd maker, with multiple menu options, video background for the menus, chapter creation. I give it a thumbs up. The only thing that keeps it from getting a 5 is it's sometimes rebellious attitude. But all and all, I haven't found anything better and will continue using it. Just remember: complie it yourself, and save often."

gimp
"Gimp is as powerful an image editing program as any. I would recommend it to anyone who considers spending $$$ on other "Professional" software. Gimp IS a Pro."
