audacious
"sonically, it is the best player out there. Why? I don't know; apparently the audio engine built within the player does not rely on backends like gstreamer and can be plugged straight into Jack or Alsa.. It spite of this I cannot find any reason why it should sound better, but it does. Please take note that this difference cannot be appreciated on an onboard internal soundcard. Only professional grade interfaces clearly show a difference. So if you're just using a standard internal soundcard other players might suit better. What is bad about the player is that the Library functions suck and the interface is not very intuitive, especially if you've been used to a good setup on Foobar2000 or the like. I much prefer players like Clementine or Guayadeque, but the audio is not as good. Audacious is very, VERY stable, regardless of whether you use Gnome, Cinnamon or KDE."

"good for those with external audio devices (flexible settings and workd with Jack audiosink). Easy to use and navigate through your library... and greatest of all: it hosts SOMA FM natively!"
